Artist Steve Hughey
With that $300 I headed to NYC and took Art at ART CAREER SCHOOL for one year. It was now 1968 and I joined the Air Force. Luck was with me, I was stationed in Denver, Co. as an Illustrator for the next 3yrs and 4 mo. During that time I went to THE ROCKY MTN School of Art nights. Then one year full time after being discharged. Then moved back to Corning, NY and started painting with a group of artists and became a poor starving Artist with a family. To have an income I painted a Mural in the Post Office for the local sign painter Walter Young.
After 8 months in Calf. I moved back east to Florida where I still live today in a modest Spanish style home with a studio. I have not tried to get in any Galleries or art shows! So this is my attempt to get my work out there. My hope is that you might enjoy this small collection of my work, and possibly own a piece of a humble artist work.
I will continue to work until the chips are cashed in.

~I was Born in a small upstate NY town in 1949. Townsend, NY with few houses or neighbors. I drew a tug boat in Sunday School at age 5 or 6. People liked it and so it all began. I sat in front of TV every Saturday morning drawing with John Nagey with the kit my folks got me. They were always encouraging till the day they Passed. I Started Painting in high school with my first Oil at age 15. My senior year I was notified while working in a flower shop that I had gotten 1st place in an art show with a nude teera cotta sculpture.
There I found there was a living in painting signs. I worked for Walt until he retired (4yrs) Then I opened my own shop for the next 24 years, doing every fine art job that came along. The sign shop is what kept me alive all that time. My love was fine art all that time which I did as well. In 2001 the shop was sold and I moved to Long Beach, Calf. I Did a lot of figure work there, Mostly watercolors. People, portraits, and figure work has always been my favorite subject.
